Identify the hidden triggers affecting your hair & scalp health.
Clinically guided allergy and sensitivity testing — because what your body reacts to can directly impact what happens on your scalp.
More than a skin prick test.
Allergies and intolerances are frequently overlooked as a contributing factor in hair loss, scalp inflammation, and chronic scalp conditions. At The PMU Clinic, our allergy screening service goes beyond a standard GP referral.
We take a thorough clinical approach — assessing your full health history, identifying potential triggers, and using targeted testing to build a clear picture of how your immune system may be affecting your hair and scalp.
We work in partnership with Health Beings, whose qualified nutritionists review cases alongside our Registered Trichologist and contribute directly to your treatment plan where dietary or nutritional factors are identified. Screening modalities range from non-invasive hair strand testing through to full blood testing — the approach is always tailored to your clinical presentation.
Our screening is evidence-based and always interpreted in the context of your wider trichological assessment. We don't test in isolation — we connect the dots.
Your allergy screening, step by step
Clinical Consultation
We begin with a thorough trichological consultation — reviewing your hair loss history, scalp symptoms, diet, lifestyle, and any known sensitivities. This gives us the clinical context to determine which screening modalities are most appropriate for your presentation.
Targeted Testing
Based on your consultation, we recommend a tailored testing approach. This may include non-invasive hair strand testing, IgG food intolerance panels, or full blood testing — always selected on clinical grounds, never as a blanket package.
Results & Interpretation
Your results are reviewed and interpreted by our Registered Trichologist in the context of your hair and scalp health. Where nutritional factors are identified, a qualified Nutritionist at Health Beings will review the case and liaise with our Trichologist to input into your care.
Personalised Treatment Plan
We build a tailored plan addressing identified triggers — which may include dietary adjustments, topical product changes, GP referral, nutritionist support via Health Beings, or a modified trichology treatment pathway.
A comprehensive view of your immune triggers.
Testing is always tailored to your clinical presentation — not every panel is right for every client.

What changes when you know your triggers.
Stop guessing, start treating
Without knowing your triggers, treatment is reactive. Allergy screening gives your trichologist the data to build a plan that addresses root causes — not just symptoms.
Reduce scalp inflammation at source
Many chronic scalp conditions — seborrhoeic dermatitis, psoriasis, folliculitis — are driven or worsened by immune reactivity. Identifying and removing triggers can significantly reduce flare frequency and severity.
Optimise your hair growth environment
Nutritional deficiencies and food intolerances can impair the hair growth cycle at a cellular level. Correcting these through targeted dietary changes creates the internal conditions hair follicles need to thrive.
Avoid products that are working against you
Contact sensitivities to ingredients in shampoos, conditioners, and styling products are common and frequently undiagnosed. Screening identifies what to avoid — protecting your scalp from ongoing chemical irritation.
Working with Health Beings
We work in partnership with Health Beings to provide our clients with access to qualified nutritionists. Where allergy or sensitivity screening identifies dietary or nutritional factors contributing to your hair loss or scalp health, the Health Beings team will review the case and liaise directly with our Trichologist — inputting into and supporting your treatment plan to ensure your care extends beyond the clinic.
Non-invasive and straightforward — a small hair sample is used to screen for a wide range of intolerances and sensitivities. No needles, no clinic visit required for the sample collection.
For a more comprehensive clinical picture, full blood testing assesses nutritional markers, inflammatory indicators, thyroid function, and immune responses with laboratory-grade precision.

Ready to find your triggers?
If your hair loss or scalp condition hasn't responded to conventional treatment, allergy and sensitivity screening could reveal the missing piece of your clinical picture.
Allergy screening is carried out as part of a full trichological assessment.
